Cheltenham Civil Service 3 - 3 Moreton Rangers
Once again Moreton provided stern opposition for Service in this entertaining Northern Senior League encounter.
Service started off poorly, their cause not helped by an early injury to Glenn Wilson. They soon paid the price as reigning Cheltenham league Division 1 champions Moreton took a 3-0 lead. Services inability to retain possession and smart play from Moreton meant opportunities to get back in the game were limited and as their frustrations grew they started to conceed a number of free kicks that broke the flow of the game.
With manager Nick Locke on holiday it was left to assistant Paul McCauley to try and turn things round at half time, and what a job he did. The performance is the second half was unrecognisable from that in the first half. As the team started to retain the ball and create opportunities down the flanks it was not long before a goal came. Paul Holmes created the chance and Mark Walsh finished the move with a powerful finish from close range.
Having got the breakthrough it was not long before a second came. Josh Goodhall had already created a number of promising opportunities with some great runs down the wing. This time he went alone, picking the ball up wide before cutting in and unleashing superb strike from 25 yards that moved right then left before finding the corner of the net.
Service's chances of claiming a share of the points seemed to take a mortal blow when Mark Walsh was dismissed for a second yellow card following a late challenge. However they refused to be broken and their spirit was rewarded when Ryan McDonald headed in from close range.
